HARTFORD, Conn. –
In a road meet at Trinity College(CT), the Bears fell by a final score of 147.5 - 142, their closest result thus far of the season. The Bantams improve to 5-0 with the victory today they will next compete at the NESCAC Championships on February 12-15, hosted by Wesleyan University. Coast Guard moves to 9-4 on the season with the loss.
Sam Halvorson(Chesapeake, VA) had the highlight of the day for women's swimming. The sophomore broke two pool records in Hartford, in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke. She swam the 100 in 58.55, and 200 in 2:06.81. Halvorson was also a part of the winning 200 yard freestyle relay, along with
Eleanor Murphy(McLean, VA),
Julia Thomas(Chandler, AZ), and
Kathleen O'Shea(Decatur, GA).
After a strong 2-0 showing last weekend at Merchant Marine,
Phoebe Jane Allred(Seattle, WA) had another outstanding day on the boards. The freshman won the one meter dive with a score of 214.57 and three meter dive with a score of 216.7.
Bears took first and second in the 50 yard freestyle with a pair of freshmen,
Julia Thomas and
Eleanor Murphy. Thomas took first with a time of 25.13 with Murphy in second at 25.24.
Zoe Suhajda(Colorado Springs, CO) and
Megan Doubrava(Aurora, CO) were dominant in the distance races today. Suhajda(5:15.75) took first and Doubrava(5:17.94) took second in the 500 yard free race. In the 100 yard free, Doubrava(10:45.20) took first and Suhajda(10:48.86) took second. Doubrava also took 2nd in the 200 yard butterfly with teammates
Tessa Breitbart(Roseville, CA) and
Celia Wyckoff(Minneapolis, MN) just behind her.
Three others took second in their respective events for Coast Guard:
Rebecca Hurst(Guilderland, NJ) in the 100 yard breaststroke,
Mikayla Jolley(Las Vegas, NV) in the 200 yard free, and
Madelyn Paxton(Mechanicsburg, VA) in the 100 yard IM. Paxton also took third in the 100 yard butterfly.
The Bears will compete next when have their final home meet of the season on January 31st with Roger Williams and Montclair State coming to town.
