Landon Kearns (East Brunswick, N.J.) and junior swimmer
Noah Reice (Wilmington, Del.) have both earned athlete of the week recognition from their respective conferences for recent standout performances. Kearns was named the New England Wrestling Association's (NEWA) Wrestler of the Week for the week ending on January 25th, while Reice was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's (NEWMAC) Men's Swimmer of the Week for the week ending on February 1st.
Kearns' honor comes in recognition of a dominant showing at Johnson & Wales University's annual Wildcat Open tournament. The 165-pounder went 6-0 on the day to top his bracket, recording three pins, a technical fall, and a major decision on his way to the final. In the championship bout, Kearns took the #4 wrestler in his weight class to overtime following a 3-3 stalemate through regulation before securing the tournament title and a huge upset victory in the second tiebreaker period.
Reice helped Bears swim & dive to a pair of dual victories in their final meet of the regular season versus Montclair State University and Roger Williams University. The junior won the 100 and 200 fly races with respective times of 49.77 and 1:54.09, touching the wall several seconds ahead of the runner-up in each race.? Reice also swim the anchor leg in the 200 medley relay, helping his squad finish almost three seconds ahead of the runners-up with a time of 1:34.68.
Kearns and #17 USCGA wrestling are on the road this week, traveling to New York University for the annual New England vs. New York Duals this Saturday, February 7th, in which the Bears are slated to take on the Violets and Bridgewater State University. Reice and swim & dive are now preparing for the NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships, scheduled to run from February 19th-22nd with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology acting as host.
