NEW LONDON, Conn. —
U.S. Coast Guard Academy track & field seniors
Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) and
Tara Jessen (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) have been named the CoastGuardAthletics.com Cadet-Athletes of the Week, presented by First Command, for their performances during the past week ending on Sunday, February 8th.
Both cadet-athletes placed their names on the big blue record board in Gregory Field House with a pair of facility record-breaking performances during CGA Winter Invite #2 this past Saturday. Hobbs ran 15:01.89 in the meet's 5,000m race to break the former 37-year-old Gregory Field House record of 15:03.30, set in 1989 by Steve Gaebel of Westfield State University. Jessen was part of a 4x400m relay squad that set a new facility record of 4:01.22, which was four seconds faster than the previous standard set by a team from Plainfield High School in 2018, as well as a new fifth-best indoor 4x4 in program history. Jessen also ran 8.88 in the 55m Hurdles, a new personal best at CGA #4 mark.
Hobbs, Jessen, and the Bears track & field team will be split between the Cupid Challenge at Tufts University and the Hemery Valentine's Invitational at Boston University when they return to compete this weekend.
