NEW LONDON, Conn. — 

U.S. Coast Guard Academy men's basketball junior Jordan Frazer (Columbia, S.C.) and track & field senior Claire Semerod (Centennial, Colo.) have been named the CoastGuardAthletics.com Athletes of the Week, presented by First Command, for their performances during the week ending on Sunday, January 25th.

Frazer was a major part in men's basketball's 2-0 week, with both wins coming in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. The junior had 18 points and three steals in an 87-80 victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology last Thursday, the team's first conference victory this season. Frazer followed it up by making an all-around impact in an 85-77 win over Emerson College on Saturday, recording a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds alongside six assists and four steals.

Semerod won two races at Wheaton College's (Mass.) Lyon Invitational on Friday to help women's track & field team top the meet standings. The senior distance specialist picked up her first win of the day in the mile, crossing the line with a time of 5:04.06. She later won the 5000 Meters, finding herself are far back as third at one point before coming back to outpace the runner-up by over 14 seconds at 18:18.74.

Frazer and Bears men's basketball face a pair of NEWMAC contests in the coming week, traveling to Wheaton (12-6, 5-4) on Wednesday and hosting Springfield (6-12, 4-5) on Saturday. Semerod and track & field will head to Boston University this weekend for the John Thomas Terrier Classic, with the women's side of the team competing on Friday and the men going on Saturday.
