MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — 

Three Coast Guard Academy cadet-athletes have been highlighted as NEWMAC Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending on Sunday, September 7th.

Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) and Claire Semerod (Centennial, Colo) swept the conference's Runner of the Week awards on behalf of the pairs. Both of the captains were the overall winners in their respective races at the Purchase College Invitational over the weekend. Hobbs finished the 6k in 19:30.9 to help the men's side place second overall, while Semerod won the 4k in 15:14.4 to help the women to a first-place team finish. Semerod finished over 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Coast Guard's third honoree this week is Harrison Hensley (Riverview, Fla.), who took home Offensive Athlete of the Week honors in football. The junior running back rushed for 324 yards and four touchdowns on 30 carries this past Saturday in a crushing 49-56 season-opening loss at the University of New England. Hensley also caught five passes for 67 yards, giving him 391 yards of total offense, while also throwing for a two-point conversion.

Hensley's performance set new Academy records for rushing yards and total yards in a game. He also received the prestigious New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet on Sunday, given to a player at the Division I and DII/III levels who had the best single-game performance in the preceding week.

The Bears cross country teams are off this week to prepare for Wesleyan University's Cardinal Invitational, taking place on September 20th. Football plays their first game at Cadet Memorial Field this Saturday, September 13th, as hosts of Curry College (1-0).
