Bears Place Fourth at NEWMAC Championships; Beauchemin and Morgan Earn Major Awards

LAKE QUINSIGAMOND, Mass.  -  Coast Guard women's rowing took their talents to Worcester today to race in the 2025 NEWMAC Championships, eventually taking fourth place in the conference standings with 33 points. Coast Guard also tied with WPI for third place in the Florence Jope Smith Cup standings with 24 points, while two Bears athletes earned major awards for their efforts.

Champions Wellesley College totaled 43 points to reclaim the title, while WPI were the runners-up at 38 and Smith was third with 36. Smith and Wellesley shared the Smith Cup after both teams recorded 36 points on the day.

"Despite tough conditions in the wind and heavy rain, all four of our boats performed well, and our program showed they've taken another step forward this year," says head coach and Director of Rowing Andriel Doolittle.

Coast Guard took third place in the First Varsity 8 with a time of 7:50.66; fourth in the 2V and 3V at 8:28.785 and 9:23.249, respectively; and third in the 4V after a 9:41.654 pace.

At the end of the day, three Bears were recognized as First Team All-Conference selections with two garnering the conference's major awards: senior Elise Beauchemin (Newbury, N.H.) was named Coxswain of the Year and fellow fourth-year Katharine Morgan (Glenside, Pa.) earned Rower of the Year. Their classmate Martha Enestvedt (St. Paul, Minn.) joined them as an All-NEWMAC selection.

Wellesley's win secured their automatic qualification for the 2025 NCAA Championships, which are being held on May 30th and 31st at Mercer Lake in New Jersey; all other teams will be competing next Saturday, May 3rd, in the New England Championships back at Lake Quinsigamond.
