Coast Guard sailing put together some impressive performances while competing in three major regattas across New York state and Connecticut this past weekend. The Bears secured strong finishes, including third place at the Admiral Moore Team Race and a solid fifth place finish at home in the Jan Friis Team Race.
NEW LONDON, Connecticut - Jan Friis Team Race (Mar 22-23)
The 64th Jan Friis Team Race was hosted at home on the Thames River. Coast Guard placed fifth overall while against top teams like Harvard, Roger Williams, and Stanford with winds from six to 14 knots, showing promise ahead of their upcoming team race qualifier. The Bears were represented by Colman Schofield (Sr. - Yorktown, Va.), Nicholas Reeser (Sr. - Wilton Manors, Fla.), Jack Derry (Sr. - East Lyme, Conn.), Daniel Neville (Sr. - Plantation, Fla.), Bradley Whiteway (Jr. - Potomac, Md.), Charlie Pohl (Jr. - Euclid, Ohio), and Sarah Krajewski (Jr. - Lewes, Del.). Helping on race committee were Caroline Odell (So. - Burke, Va.), Julian Henderson (Camden, Maine), David Vinogradov (Fr. - Cocoa Beach, Fla.), and Gabriella Fields (Fr. - Key West, Fla.).

The Kings Point Open Team Race was hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Bears finished in eighth ahead of their service academy rivals while facing tough competition from teams like St. Mary's College and Penn. The team featured Luke Zylinski (Jr. - Lavalette, N.J.), Allison Nystrom (Jr. - Centerville, Mass.), Julia Conneely (Jr. - Tampa, Fla.), Grace Austin (So. - Morrpark, Calif.), Gavin VanManen (So. - Rockford, Mich.), and Joey Richardson (Fr. - San Diego, Calif.).

The Admiral Moore Team Race was hosted by SUNY Maritime. The Bears secured third place with a 10-4 record in fluctuating winds while beating out another team from Kings Point. Coast Guard was represented by an impressive young squad of mostly freshmen and one sophomore: Austin White (So. - Tampa, Fla.), Meara Conley (Fr. - Hingham, Mass.), Tomas Riccio (Fr. - Rochester, N.Y.), Benjamin Reeser (Fr. - Wilton Manors, Fla.), Ella Demand (Fr. - Toms River, N.J.), Sam Puleio (Fr. - Tinton Falls, N.J.), and Olivia Spada (Fr. - Huntington, N.Y.).
