NEW LONDON, Conn. —
Seven cadet-athletes from the United States Coast Guard Academy sailing team have been recognized as the CoastGuardAthletics.com Athletes of the Week, presented by First Command, for their performances during the week ending Monday, March 22nd.
Caroline Odell (Burke, Va.),
Gabriella Fields (Juneau, Alas.),
David Vinogradov (Cocoa Beach, Fla.),
Grace Boudreau (Tequesta, Fla.),
Will Bryant (Lawrenceville, Ga.),
William Clay (Leonardtown, Md.), and
John Fichtenholtz (Branford, Conn.) of sailing's dinghy team took first place at SUNY Maritime College's Admiral Moore Team Race regatta over the weekend. The septet won after getting into a three-way tie with the hosting Privateers and Fordham University after all three teams posted a 6-3 record. It ultimately came down to points scored, and the Bears' total of 59 gave them the edge over SUNY's 64 and the Rams' 66.
Sailing has another busy weekend on the horizon, scheduled to split up between six regattas. Two of those, the Callahan Trophy and J70 Invite #2, are set to be contested on USCGA's home waters of the Thames River.
