NORFOLK, Va. —
The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) has made an additional announcement to add to its 2024-25 All-Academic Team. This announcement, focused on offshore sailors, recognizes outstanding student-athletes who have excelled both on the water and in the classroom.
We are thrilled to highlight the exceptional Bears who earned this prestigious distinction. The ICSA All-Academic Team honors juniors and seniors who have competed in at least seven regattas during the academic year while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
This year's selections from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy exemplifies the balance of academic rigor and elite athletic performance that defines the program.
Ethan Brown '25 (Putnam Valley, N.Y.)
In his senior season, Brown competed in seven regattas and was one of the most versatile players on the Offshore team. Brown competed as Mast and Strategist on th McMillan and Kennedy Cup boats and was also a strong bow, headsail trimmer, and main trimmer for the team. Some highlights from Brown's last year on the team include:
- 1st in the PHRF-Medium Division at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
- 3rd at the McMillan Cup
- 3rd at the Kennedy Cup
Will Cory '25 (Westminster, Md.)
Cory sailed in seven regattas his senior season, where he served as the starting jib trimmer for the starting boat on the Offshore Team. Cory is one of the best trimmers the Offshore team has seen. Along with being a fierce competitor, he was a great coach to the underclassmen trimmers on the squad. Some top events from Cory's senior season include:
- 1st in the PHRF-Medium Division at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
- 3rd in the McMillan Cup
- 3rd in the Kennedy Cup
Hailey Johns '25 (Melbourne, Fla.)
Johns was the captain of the offshore team and both a strong leader on and off the water. Johns sailed in seven regattas in her senior season, serving as headsail trimmer on the starting boat for the squad. Johns was a specialist in symmetrical kite flying along with being a strong jib trimmer and serving as pit and as an underclassman coach during her final season. Some top finishes for John's include:
- 1st in the PHRF-Medium Division at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
- 3rd at the McMillan Cup
- 3rd at the Kennedy Cup
Alex Rogers '25 (Williamsburg, Va.)
The Offshore team's best and most experienced bowman in the 2024-25 season, Rogers was a massive part of CGA's third place finish at Big Boat Nationals (the Kennedy Cup). Rogers put on a flawless performance in the Kennedy Cup and had a fantastic senior year, totaling eight events. Some highlights include:
- 1st in the PHRF-Medium Division at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
- 3rd in the McMillan Cup
- 3rd in the Kennedy Cup
Sean Sullivan '25 (Apex, N.C.)
Captain of the Offshore team his senior season, Sullivan was also one of the busiest players on the team as he sailed in ten regattas. Sullivan was a true student of sailing and posted impressive results throughout the season as a driver, tactician, trimmer, and bow. Sullivan is highly capable anywhere aboard any boat and was also a great coach to his underclassman teammates. Highlights from his senior year include:
- 1st in the PHRF-Medium Division at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
- 3rd in the McMillan Cup
- 3rd in the Kennedy Cup
Eve Lanzafame '26 (Hadley, Mass.)
In her junior season, Lanzafame sailed in nine events, posting great results throughout the season while serving as headsail trimmer. Some of her top finishes include:
- 2nd in the PHRF-Zero Division at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
- 4th in the J105 Division at the Southern Collegiate Offshore Regatta
- 1st in the Coastal Division at the American Yacht Club Fall Series
Will Spada '26 (Huntington, N.Y.)
In his junior season, Spada provided a spark aboard each boat he was on. Spada sailed in eight regattas while serving as mast, bow, headsail trimmer, main trimmer and skipper. Spada has worked hard at each role and has been able to help push the team wherever he is aboard. Some of Spada's top events include:
- 2nd in the PHRF-Zero Division at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
- 1st in the Coastal Division at the American Yacht Club Fall Series
- 2nd in the ORC Division at the Fishers Island 'Round Island Regatta
Connor Boudreau '26 (Suffield, Conn.)
Boudreau began his career at CGA as a bowman, but has worked back to skippering for most of his junior season. Boudreau brings great attitude and energy, and his knowledge from his time on the bow allows him to drive successfully through difficult sail changes around windward and leeward marks. Some highlights from Boudreau's season include:
- 2nd in the PHRF-Zero Division at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
- 4th in the J105 Division at the Southern Collegiate Offshore Regatta
- 5th at J70 Invite #3
Alexis Taylor '26 (Mason, Mich.)
Taylor, who started her career at CGA as a walk-on with minimal sailing experience, has quickly risen to one of the team's best trimmers. With a busy junior year including ten regattas, Taylor also managed to sharpen her skills in the pit, bow and as a tactician. Some highlights from her junior year include:
- 6th at the Shield's Trophy
- 7th at the Pine Trophy
- 3rd at J70 Invite #1
Charlotte Waring '26 (Metuchen, N.J.)
Waring has turned into one of the Offshore team's best drivers. With her consistent positive attitude, Waring is a calming presence for her teammates while at the helm. Some of Waring's highlights from a busy junior year sailing nine regattas include:
- 2nd at the ICSA Small Keelboat Regatta
- 4th in the J105 Division at the Southern Collegiate Offshore Regatta
- 7th at J70 Invite #1
Hudson Holden '26 (Harpswell, Maine)
Holden is one of the most versatile sailors on the Offshore team. Holden sailed in seven regattas his junior year, competing as main trimmer, mast, bow and occasionally serving as headsail trimmer. Holden's attitude always lifts up his team. Some highlights from his junior season include:
- 2nd in the ORC Division at the Fishers Island 'Round Island Regatta
- 2nd in the PHRF 1 Division at the American YC Fall Series
- 3rd in the PHRF Division at the Commodore's Trophy
Cathryn Hegner '26 (Universal City, Tex.)
Hegner began her career as a walk-on with no sailing experience, but has quickly become CGA's strongest pit player. Hegner's attention to detail, work with her bow teammates, and her outspokenness have made her a key part of CGA's success during her junior season. Highlights from Hegner's nine-event season include:
- 3rd at the McMillan Cup
- 3rd at the Kennedy Cup
- 2nd at J70 Invite #3
Joshua Golden '26 (Arlington, Va.)
Golden has been a true student of the game, and has trained himself to compete as a skipper, headsail trimmer, main trimmer and mast. Golden has worked hard on his understanding of sail-shape along with tactics. All his hard work has shown with some great results in his eight-regatta junior season, with highlights including:
- 2nd in the PHRF-Zero Division at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
- 7th at J70 Invite #1
- 3rd in the PHRF Division at the Commodore's Trophy
This announcement from ICSA brings CGA's total All-Academic count to an impressive 18 student-athletes for the 2024-2025 season, marking another milestone in the program's continued success.
