NEW LONDON, Conn. - Coast Guard lost their second-straight earlier today in a 1-6 defeat to Trinity College (Conn.) The Bears move to 0-2, while Trinity opens their season with a win. The Bantams will host Bowdoin College tomorrow in the Polar Bears' season opener.
Coast Guard's top duo of
Ben Bonetto (Bend, Oreg.) and team captain
Brendan Love (Winchester, Va.) suffered their first doubles loss of the season, falling in a 3-6 result to the Bantams top duo of
Jack Ginter (Phoenixville, Pa.) and
Axel Edstrom (Stockholm, Sweden). At no. 2 doubles, the Bears' freshman duo of
Anthony Gregoire (Hagatna, Guam) and
Konnor Eslinger (St. Charles, Mo.) fell to
Brandon Felcher (Westport, Conn.) and
Pierce Rutledge (Chicago, Ill.), 4-6.
In singles action, Bonetto secured the lone victory of the day for the Bears and his first individual win of the season with his 2-0 (6-3, 7-6) win over
John Pope (New York, N.Y.) in the top singles match of the day. Love and Eslinger would fall in their respective no. 2 and no. 4 singles matches; both competitors posted 0-2 (2-6, 3-6) results in a pair of hard-fought matches.
