Box Score NEWARK, N.J. –
After a successful 2024 season, Coast Guard has picked up right where they left off to start the 2025 campaign with a 14-2 victory over Rutgers-Newark. With the loss, Rutgers-Newark falls to 2-3 early in their season. They will next travel to FDU-Florham on Tuesday March 4th at 2:30 PM.
For Coast Guard, it was an offensive clinic. The Bears scored in seven of the nine innings of their opening day victory. The hit barrage started in the first inning when a
Parker Madden(Ruston, LA) single drove in
Nathan Stafford(Jupiter, FL), who had singled earlier in the inning. In the third, Stafford would get an RBI of his own, driving in fellow sophomore
Carson Cho(Haymarket, VA) who doubled to begin the two out CGA rally. Stafford would homer later in the game and finish 4-6 from the plate with four RBI, both of which tied team highs. Also with four RBI was junior third baseman
Luke Percifield(Pinellas Park, FL). Percifield had the rare feat of two triples in the afternoon. The other Bear with four hits was senior outfielder
Blake George(Bethlehem, PA) who went 4-5 with two runs scored.
With a home run in the 5th inning, shortstop
Rick Barkley(Bellevue, WA) moved his way into a tie for 2nd place all-time on the Coast Guard home run leaderboard with 16.
On the mound,
Vito Giordano(Scarsdale, NY) earned the win with a five inning performance in his first outing of the season. The sophomore standout struck out four and walked just one in his winning performance. After Giordano came
Raymond Priddy(Chico, CA) and
Ryan Karman(Sayville, NY) who shut the door for the final four innings. Priddy threw three innings allowing just one hit and striking out five. Karman threw the final inning, striking out two to close out the 14-2 CGA victory.
Coast Guard will be back in action on Wednesday March 5th on the road at 2:30 PM vs crosstown rival Mitchell College.
