WALTHAM, Mass. —
It was the second meeting of the year with Brandeis University for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy women's swimming & diving team, but the result was very much like the first. The two teams faced off at the start of the season in Worcester Polytechnic Institute's quad meet, with the Coast Guard winning the head-to-head by a score of 241-44. This time around, the Bears once again prevailed with a dominant 167-47 victory.
Coast Guard improves to 8-0, while Brandeis moves to 0-7. The Judges will once again look for their first victory of the season when they head to Tufts University (2-1) tomorrow, November 23rd.
Every race on the day was won by the Bears, opening with a 200 Medley Relay victory in 1:52 by the team of
Sam Halvorson (Chesapeake, Va.),
Rebecca Hurst (Guiderland, N.J.),
Madelyn Paxton (Mechanicsburg, Va.), and
Kathleen O'Shea (Decatur, Ga.). Three of the four went on to claim individual victories for CGA, with Halvorson taking the 100 Free in 54 seconds; Hurst winning the 200 Breast in 2:33; and Paxton touching the wall first in the 200 Fly at 2:17.
Zoe Suhajda (Colorado Springs, Colo.) followed with an 11:26 win in the 1000 Free, and
Mikayla Jolley (Las Vegas, Nev.) was next with a two-minute victory in the 200 Free. After that was a 50 Free victory in 25.42 for
Julia Thomas (Chandler, Ariz.), who beat O'Shea to the wall by 0.46 seconds.
Megan Doubrava (Aurora, Colo.) made it another weekend with multiple event wins, taking the 400 IM in 4:48 and the 500 Free with a time of 5:26.
Lara Baronsky (Victory, N.Y.) picked up a win on the 1-meter board, scoring 170.17, while
Colleen Read (Annandale, Va.) closed out the individual runs with 2:14 victory in the 200 Back. Coast Guard ended the day with one more relay victory, taking the 200 Free Relay in 1:41 on the backs of Thomas, Halvorson, Jolley, and O'Shea.
Bears women's swim & dive will be off next week due to Thanksgiving Break, but they'll be right back at it the weekend after when they compete in a tri-meet at Connecticut College (0-1) and Amherst College (1-1). Amherst moved up to 15th in the most College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, recently released on November 14th.
