Women’s swim start season with strong performance at WPI

Worcester, MA. –

On a Halloween opening night for the Bears, Coast Guard started strong with a 4-0 finish. Three of the four victories were versus NEWMAC opponents with wins over WPI(203-84), Babson(200-85), and Smith(192.5-106.5).

After a strong season last year, Coast Guard will look to mount momentum this year upon this dominant start. The 200 yard relay team of Sam Halvorson(Chesapeake, VA), Rebecca Hurst(Guilderland, NJ), Madelyn Paxton(Mechanicsburg, VA), and Julia Thomas(Chandler, AZ)  took first in a hotly contested race to lead the Bears to victory. Their winning time of 1:50.35 was just 0.5 seconds faster than the second place team from Babson College.

Also taking first was Zoe Suhajda(Colorado Springs, CO) in the 1000 free, Rebecca Hurst in the 100 Breast stroke, Julia Thomas in the 50 yard free, Megan Doubrava(Aurora, CO) in the 500 free, and Madelyn Paxton in the 200 IM.

Coast Guard will next travel to Springfield College next Saturday November 8th for a 12 PM dual vs the Pride and Wheaton College.
