Sailing Competes in Four Events Throughout New England

NEW LONDON, Conn.  -  The Coast Guard Academy sailing team competed in four events throughout the New England region this past weekend. Their results at each event are noted below.
  • SHERMAN HOYT TROPHY (Providence, R.I.)  -  The Hoyt Trophy was hosted by Brown University and sailed out of Edgewood Yacht Club. Wet and windy conditions on Saturday saw eight races sailed in each division; on Sunday, warmer temperatures with lighter Northeast breeze with six more races sailed in each division to complete the event. The Bears finished 11th overall and were represented by Colman Schofield (Arlington, Va.), Peter McGonagle (Seattle, Wash.), Charles Pohl (Euclid, Ohio), and Austin White (Tampa, Fla.) in A-Division; while Luke Zylinski (Lavalette, N.J.) and Grace Austin (Moorpark, Calif.) held down B-Division.
  • MRS. HURST TROPHY (Hanover, N.H.)  - The 26th Annual Women's Mrs. Hurst Bowl was hosted by Dartmouth College. Seventeen teams competed in light and fluky conditions over the course of two days with ten races completed. The Lady Bears finished 10th overall and were represented by Julia Conneely (Tampa, Fla.) and Allison Nystrom (Centerville, Mass.) in A-Division and Laura Slovensky (Brookhaven, N.Y.) and Charlotte McCarthy (Hamden, Conn.) who finished a solid 6th overall in B- Division.
  • IC37 NORTH AMERICANS (Newport, R.I.)  -  The New York Club hosted the IC37 North Americans over three days with 21 boats competing. After the first two days were cancelled due to excessive wind, a truncated event was squeezed in on Sunday. Sailing against top racing teams of different age groups, CGA Sailing finished 10th overall. Sailing for the Bears was Connor Boudreau (West Suffield, Conn.), Sarah Krajewski (Lewes, Del.), Alexis Taylor (Mason, Mich.), and Gavin VanManen (Rockford, Mich.).
  • SALT POND INVITE (Wakefield, R.I.)  -  The Salt Pond Open was hosted by the University of Rhode Island over the weekend. Eleven teams sailed in blustery conditions in the outer pond with the Bears finishing 3rd overall behind host URI and Roger Williams. Sailing for CGA was Caroline Odell (Burke, Va.), Benjamin Reeser (Wilton Manors, Fla.), Julian Henderson (Camden, Maine), and Tomas Riccio (Rochester, N.Y.) in A-Division. David Vinogradov (Cocoa Beach, Fla.), Joey Richardson (San Diego, Calif.), Gabriella Fields (Key West, Fla.), and Sam Puleio (Tinton Falls, N.J.) finished 3rd in B-Division.
