NEW LONDON, Conn. - Coast Guard Athletics has announced the hiring of Sean Martin who will be an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach and Instructor of Fitness and Aquatics.
Martin spent seven years as an assistant men's basketball coach at Springfield College. Most recently, he was an assistant coach at American International College.Â
"We are excited to add Sean to our coaching staff," said head Coach Kevin Jaskiewicz. "He is a person who cares greatly about the development of the people he works with and is passionate about the game of basketball."
In addition to coaching, Martin has been a personal trainer for 10 years and holds a certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
he will not only be a coach at CGA, but will also be an instructor in the Leadership Development Center, teaching classes for OCS in the areas of fitness and aquatics.
Director of Athletics, Dr. Dan Rose, shared the excitement of Martin joining the Coast Guard Family, stating, "On behalf of the Athletics Division we are excited to welcome Sean Martin as the newest member of the coaching staff. Sean brings a wealth of experience as a player and a coach and we are excited to see him contribute to the development of the men's basketball program. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy uses sport as a co-curricular experience aimed at developing leaders of character for service in the world's best Coast Guard. Sean emerged as the ideal candidate to augment our men's basketball team as well as our leader development program."
Martin holds both a graduate and undergraduate degree from Springfield College in the field of Exercise Science and Business Administration.
He will report on July 1st to begin his duties.Â
