Coast Guard Survives Late Rally, Defeats Endicott 62-59 to Extend Winning Streak

Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard Academy women's basketball team extended their winning streak to four games with a hard-fought 62-59 victory over Endicott. The Bears put on a strong defensive performance, holding the Gulls to just 36.8% shooting and limiting them to just 59 points. Coast Guard also outpaced Endicott in key statistical categories, including assists, blocks, and defensive rebounds.

The game started with multiple lead changes. The Gulls opened the contest with a 6-0 run, but the Bears quickly responded with an 8-0 run of their own. Coast Guard continued to push the tempo and took a narrow 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, with freshman Ruby Miller hitting a pair of threes to pace the Bears.

The second quarter saw Coast Guard take control, outscoring the Gulls 19-9. Junior Dorothy Stotts absolutely dominated, scoring 11 out of the team's 19 points in the quarter to give the Bears a comfortable 13-point lead at halftime.

Endicott came out strong in the third quarter, narrowing the gap with a 18-8 scoring run. The Bears struggled to find their offensive rhythm, and by the end of the third, their lead had shrunk to just three points.

The final quarter was a tense back-and-forth battle. With just over two minutes left, senior Glory Blethen hit a key layup to push the Bears' lead to four, but the Gulls quickly answered with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to one. Despite the Gulls' rally, Coast Guard held firm defensively, forcing Endicott to foul in the closing seconds. Senior Kelly Hagerty calmly sank both free throws, and the Gulls' final attempt at a game-tying three fell short, sealing the Bears' 62-59 victory.

Freshman Olivia Wright led the way in scoring with a team-high 15 points, followed by Stotts who finished with 13. Hagerty also posted a double-double, finishing the game with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bears (5-1) will return home for their third straight game on December 4th, where they will face Trinity at 5:00 p.m.
