Bears Qualify for the Kennedy Cup, and Place 5th at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship

It was another successful weekend for the Bears! The team posted strong results across this weekend with a 3rd place at the McMillan Cup, 3rd and 9th at the ICSA Small Keelboat Regatta, 5th place at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship, and 7th at the Oberg Trophy.

Annapolis, MD – The McMillan Cup was hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. CGA was faced with very challenging conditions with light winds of 2-7 knots and heavy current. After 4 races on Saturday and only one race on Sunday, the Bears were able to battle through and place 3rd in a highly competitive fleet. CGA sailors beat out Kings Point and solidified a spot at the famed Kennedy Cup (Offshore College Nationals). Sailors were 1/c Parker O'Sullivan, 1/c Sean Sullivan, 4/c Sarah Evans, 1/c Will Cory, 1/c Hailey Johns, 2/c Cathryn Hegner, 1/c Ethan Brown and 1/c Alex Rogers.

Boston, MA – The Open Atlantic Coast Championship was hosted and sailed at Boston College at Savin Hill Yacht Club in Dorchester, MA. This was the most competitive event of the season for the Open Dinghy sailors and consisted of a very light breeze ranging from 0-7 knots. A total of seven races were sailed and tested the Bears ability to stay consistent throughout the regatta. After multiple protests and redresses were filed by other teams, the results were final with the Bears finishing in a strong 5th place out of 18. The sailors representing CGA at the regatta were 1/c Colman Schofield, 1/c Nicholas Reeser, 1/c Daniel Neville, and 2/c Charlie Pohl, 2/c Bradley Whiteway, and 2/c Sarah Krajewski.

Annapolis, MD – The ICSA Small Keelboat Regatta was also hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. With similar conditions to the McMillan Cup, these sailors fought through light and shifty conditions in a competitive fleet. Sailing Bears 2, who earned a stellar 3rd place, was 2/c Charlotte Waring, 2/c Jackson Burrows, 2/c Eve Lanzafame, and 3/c Ben de Ordanza. Sailing Bears 1, which earned a 9th place, was 2/c Connor Boudreau, 3/c Ned Jobson, 2/c Alexis Taylor, and 3/c Keith Teague.

Boston, MA – The Oberg Trophy was hosted by MIT and Northeastern on the Charles River. A truly light wind regatta, the sailors experienced 0-5 knots of wind with very minimal racing on Saturday and 8 races on Sunday. The Bears worked extremely hard to fight the shifty conditions of the Charles and fought against some very talented teams. The team ended up 7th out of 18 with 1/c Peter McGonagle and 3/c Austin White getting 3rd in C Division. 2/c Luke Zylinski and 3/c Grace Austin narrowly missed the tiebreak in B Division and finished in 4th place. The regatta was sailed by 1/c Peter McGonagle, 1/c Jack Derry, 2/c Luke Zylinski, 3/c Gavin VanManen, 3/c Grace Austin, and 3/c Austin White.
