Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - Men's Basketball earned its fifth conference win after taking down Clark in a close battle, ending with a score of 82-76.
It was clear the game would be close from the very beginning. Clark put up the first points, but was quickly matched when Coast Guard got on the board off a jumper by
Elijah Parent. From there, the teams traded a few more baskets before CGA got its first lead of the game at 7-6, coming off a three by
Mitch Shettles.
The Bears would never allow the Cougars to get on top again for the rest of the game. Their biggest lead in the first half came when Shettles knocked down another three, putting CGA up by 12.
Heading into the break, the Bears were still up by double-digits, leading 44-34.
CGA ended the second half on a drought, unable to find the bottom of the basket until nearly three minutes in. While the game did tie at 49, the Bears redeemed themselves and once again jumped in front. The largest lead of the second half, and the game, was 13.
Coast Guard continued to knock down shots, while the defense held of Clark, ultimately getting the win.
Shettles led all players in scoring with 22. He also had five rebounds and a steal. Parent and
Luke Farrell each had 13 points, with the latter also grabbing nine rebounds.
Coast Guard is now 12-8 overall and 5-6 in conference. Their next game will be at MIT on February 3rd at 2 PM.
