NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Women's Swimmers improved their season record to 9-2 with a win at home against Montclair State University in a final score of 158-119. The women won twelve of the sixteen events with several Bears having big days.
The meet began and ended with Coast Guard racing to the fastest times in relays. The 200 medley relay of first year Madelyn Paxton, junior Tailyn Schaufelberger, Captain Tamara Wheater and sophomore Masen Karsten clocked in at 1:51.63. The 200 freestyle relay of Wheater, junior Ellie Heistand, Paxton and Karsten cruised to the top spot in 1:42.56.
Paxton had her fastest day as a Bear in winning the backstroke events. Her 59.92 in the 100 yard backstroke marked her first time below the one minute mark as a Coastie. She also finished first in the 200 back in 2:10.97.
Junior Grace Keogh continued her encouraging junior year with a pair of wins. Her 1:56.87 in the 200 free was an in season best time for her and she finished nearly five seconds in front of teammate first year, Lili Feyk at 2:01.63. Grace also won the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 58.92.
First year Megan Doubrava also chipped in with the top times in the 200 butterfly (2:11.27). Doubrava also won the 500 freestyle (5:22.85) as well as the 200 Individual Medley (2:13.41). Doubrava again showing the versatility that has been a calling card for her first year as a Bear.
Schaufelberger came back to form in the 100 breaststroke winning in 1:08.12 and followed by fellow Bears Senior Rylie Brick (1:09.21) and junior Ellie Hiestand (1:09.50) for a 1-2-3 finish for the second week in a row. Hiestand returned in the 200 breaststroke and eclipsed the field in 2:25.60, followed by Brick in 2:29.71.
The Bears will host Wellesley College on Friday January 26 at 6:00 pm.
