Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. - Coast Guard Baseball took on WPI on Saturday, splitting the day by winning game one and falling in game two.
Game one started off with a bang for the Bears. Lead-off batter, Blake Carroll, singled to left field to get on base. Following the hit, Richard Barkley launched one to left field for a two-run homer. Three batters later, Parker Madden doubled to bring home John Carroll, putting the Bears up 3-0 heading into the bottom half of the first.
Coast Guard added to its lead in the top of the fourth off a single by Charles Red that scored Madden.
WPI got its first run in the bottom half of the inning, but Coast Guard quickly brought its lead back to four in the top half of the fifth. Madden double to right center, bringing home Jack Steel.
The Goats added another to their score in the bottom of the sixth. CGA answered back in the top of the seventh off a homer by B. Carroll. WPI tried to come back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but Coast Guard was able to hold them off for the 6-4 win.
John Thigpen got the win and recorded seven strikeouts. Raymond Priddy was credited with the save and had three strikeouts.
Game two was a struggle for CGA. The Bears were only able to get three hits, for no runs. Coast Guard couldn't hold WPI, ultimately falling, 5-0.
Coast Guard will go for the series win over WPI on April 24th at 3:30 PM.
