Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. – Bears Baseball hosted Bates College for a doubleheader today winning game one, 7-6 and falling 10-4 in game two.
In the first inning, the Bobcats got on the board first from a two-run homer by Brandon Biggane.
Bears answered right back in the bottom of the first after Jack Steel doubled and hit in John Carroll. Then Freshman Richard Barkley hit a two-run bomb and the Bears took the lead for a score of 3-2.
Bates took the lead back in the top of the third scoring four runs. Charles Red then came up in the bottom of the third and doubled, knocking in two runs.
Neither team scored for four straight innings.
Then in the bottom of the seventh Bears scored one to tie it up 6-6.
In the bottom of the eighth, Bates pitcher Sam Hough walked in a run and Bears took the first game, for a final score of 7-6.
Barkley was three for three at the plate, Red was two for three and Blake Carroll was three for five.
On the mound for CGA, Raymond Priddy had six strikeouts and only allowed five hits. He threw 52 strikes out of 82 pitches.
In game two, Bears attacked first from a J. Carroll RBI.
In the top of the second, Bates tied it up 1-1. The Bobcats scored three more in the top of the third to take the lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, B. Carroll homered and hit in Blaise Oeding, for a score of 3-4 going into the fifth.
Bobcats would hit in two more in the top of the fifth and increase their lead to 6-3. In the top of the sixth the Bobcats added four more runs.
The Bears answered back in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homerun from Parker Madden.
Unfortunately for the Bears, they would not be able to come back in the final inning and would fall 10-4.
Bears Baseball is back in action this Tuesday, March 26, as they face Merhcant Marine at 3:30 PM on their home field.
