This past weekend USCGA Sailing competed at three events around New England - The 2nd J/70 Invitational hosted by USCGA, the Jan Friis Team Race hosted by Roger Williams University, and the Team Race Invite hosted by Harvard.
New London, Conn. -- This was the second of three home J70 Invitational Regattas with schools from across the United States competing. The regatta brought challenging conditions with rain, cold temps and solid Easterly winds on Saturday. Sunday was a totally different day with Sunny skys and strong Westerly winds. The Bears placed 1st and 5th out of 9 teams respectively. The University of Rhode Island ended up in 2nd place with the University of Wisconsin taking 3rd place. The 1st place boat was crewed by 2/c Jake Earnshaw, 2/c Harlan Brady, 3/c Andrew Nichols, and 4/c Hudson Holden. The 5th place boat was crewed by 1/c John Taylor, 2/c Boykin-Holland, 2/c William O'Leary, and 4/c Cathryn Hegner.
Bristol, RI -- This weekend the Bears raced against nine teams at the Jan Friis Team Race. Strong current and Easterly winds made for a great racing on Saturday with similar current and Westerly winds on Sunday. Two round robins and a single final four was sailed over the 2 days. Sailing for the Bears was 1/c Matthew Kickhafer, 1/c Charles Mason, 1/c Jack Farrell, 2/c Lauren O'Neill, 2/c Daniel Unangst, 3/c Colman Schofield, 3/c Nicholas Reeser, and 4/c Charles Pohl sailing.
Boston, Mass. -- In Boston, the Bears raced in the Team Race Invite hosted by Harvard. The Bears placed 5th of eight. Two round robins were sailed on Saturday with the top four completing two rounds of four. The bottom four completed one round on Sunday in very strong winds. Competing for the Bears was 2/c Mia Quinlan, 3/c Celia Houston, 3/c Jack Derry, 4/c Allison Nystrom, 4/c Julia Conneely, 4/c Luke Zylinski, 4/c Bradley Whiteway, 4/c Aiana Cayao, and 4/c Sarah Krajewski.
