CGA Sailing competed in three events throughout the Northeast this past weekend including one Offshore regatta at home and two away Dinghy Regattas. The CGA Offshore team hosted other Offshore and Dinghy sailing teams at the CGA J70 Invite #1, and the Dinghy Squad competed at the Ivan Geiger Team Race hosted by MIT and the Southern New England Team Race hosted by Connecticut College.
New London, Conn. –- The first of three CGA J70 invites was hosted this past weekend, with strong competition from around the Northeast. The CGA Bears had 3 teams competing in the home event with Bears 1 led by 1/c Rachel Pelton, 2/c Coleman Pepperd, 2/c Myles Piotrowski and 3/c Ethan Brown, Bears 2 led by 1/c Kurt Biedermann, 1/c Lea Walker, 1/c Nael Alami and 3/c Kobi Weiland, and Bears 3 led by 1/c Libby Jackson, 2/c Luc Bay, 3/c Will Cory and 3/c Parker O'Sullivan. Each team navigated extremely difficult and variable conditions on Saturday and extremely windy and shifty conditions on Sunday. Bears 2 were able to sail to a solid 2nd place, with Bears 1 and Bears 3 sailing to 6th and 7th place. Notably all Bears teams got the win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
New London, Conn. –- Further up the Thames River from the home J70 invite was the Southern New England Team Race (SNETR), one of the top team race events in the country. Sailing for the Bears were 1/c Emma Snead, 3/c Nicholas Reeser, 3/c Jack Derry, 3/c Laura Slovensky, 3/c Danielle Neville and 4/c Aiana Cayao. The squad saw very similar conditions to the Offshore bears, including extremely variable conditions Saturday and very gusty, shifty conditions on Sunday. The Bears sailed to 9th place against very strong competition.
Boston, Mass. –- The Dinghy Squad competed in one of the top events of the Spring, the Ivan Geiger Team Race hosted by MIT. The Bears were represented by 2/c Mia Quinlan, 4/c Julia Conneely, 4/c Charlie Pohl, 4/c Luke Zylinski, 4/c Bradley Whiteway and 4/c Will Spada. The Bears sailed against many of the top teams in their conference and battled frigid and extremely gusty conditions on the Charles River. The Bears ended up in eight place overall and were able to take a few wins over some of the top NEISA teams.
