Charleston, S.C. -- The Bears finished off their spring break training block with strong performances at three Dinghy Regattas and one Offshore event.
At the start of spring break, the Dinghy team competed in their first ever Women's Team Racing event (after the discipline was established last year). The team competed at the Phebe Corckran King Women's Team Race hosted by the College of Charleston. There were six strong teams in attendance, including the Stanford Cardinals. The Bears were represented by Leonora Krajewski '23, Emma Snead '23, Emily Bornarth '24, Lauren O'Neill '24, Mia Quinlan '24, Laura Slovensky '25, and Julia Conneely '26. Three round robins were completed leaving the Bears with a 7/8 record. The team finished with a strong 3rd place overall.
Over spring break, the entire Dinghy Team trained in Charleston at the College of Charleston's sailing facilities. The team was able to complete eleven on the water sessions in addition to ample classroom time to review strategy and tactics. The squad focused mainly on the team racing discipline during the training block which will be crucial in the coming weeks of the predominantly team race spring season.
At the end of spring break, the Open Team competed at the Bob Bavier Open Team Race also hosted by the College of Charleston. This was the season opener for the Open Dinghy squad and the team did not disappoint. Coming off of a week of intense training, the team was able to best the competition, only losing 3 races out of the 19 races sailed. The Bears went undefeated in the second round robin leaving the team with a 16/3 record firmly securing 1st place. Other notable teams in attendance were the U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen, the Tulane Green Wave, and the Stanford Cardinals. The Bears were represented by Jack Farrell '23, Matt Kickhafer '23, Charlie Mason '23, Lauren O'Neill '24, Dan Unangst '24, Nicholas Reeser '25, Colman Schofield '25, and Charlie Pohl '26.
Boston, MA - At the end of spring break, the Bears also competed at the Wood Trophy Team Race hosted by Harvard. CGA sailing was represented by Leo Krajewski '23, Emma Snead '23, Emily Bornarth '24, Mia Quinlan '24, Jack Derry '25, Daniel Neville '25, Laura Slovensky '25, and Aiana Cayao '26. The Bears struggled early in the first-round robin, but then improved throughout the event. A single full round robin, single round of the bottom 6 and a double round of the top 4 teams were completed. The Bears narrowly missed the top 4, and ended the event in 6th overall with an 8/6 record.
Newport, RI – This past weekend the Bears also competed at the Salve Regina Team Race Invite hosted by Salve Regina University. Racing was cancelled on Saturday due to high winds and cold temperatures. On Sunday, two full round robins were completed.
