Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Women's Lacrosse Team hosted Salve Regina in their season opener, taking down the Seahawks with a final score of 21-6.
The Bears opened the game quickly, scoring a goal in under 50 seconds of the start. Abby McAllister got the opening score for Coast Guard.
Less than two minutes later, Gianna Cascio put the Bears up 2-0 with 12 and a half minutes left in the first. Only 18 seconds later, McAllister got her second goal of the game, putting CGA up 3-0.
Coast Guard scored three more times in the first quarter alone, while holding Salve Regina to only two goals.
In the second quarter, Salve Regina scored first but Coast Guard answered back with five goals before allowing a score by Salve Regina. The Bears scored two more times in the quarter.
Heading into halftime, the Bears were leading the Seahawks, 13-4.
The start of the third quarter, CGA scored in under a minute off a goal by Caitlyn Coates. The Bears scored four more times in the quarter and two more times in the fourth, while keeping the Seahawks off the board for the final 15 minutes.
The Bears went four of four on free position shots, recorded 18 ground balls and 24 draw controls. Cascio led both teams in scoring with five, followed by Coates and McAllister with three apiece.
The Bears will head out on the road to face Bridgewater St. on February 25th at 1 PM.
