NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Coast Guard Women's Basketball lost at home on Saturday afternoon to WPI, 64-54, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. With the loss, the Bears fall to 12-11 (4-4 NEWMAC); WPI improves to 17-5 (7-2 NEWMAC).

Freshman Dorothy Stotts came off the bench to lead all players with 14 points. Sophomore Glory Blethen notched a 10-point game, while classmate Julia Mann went for eight points and a team-high eight rebounds, as well as three steals and three assists. Junior Kira Wood picked up seven points and senior Jacqueline Ward added six. Freshman Taylor Lynch hit one from beyond the arc for three points, while assisting on three baskets and securing two steals.

In an evenly matched game, WPI outscored Coast Guard 14-11 in each of the first two quarters to build a 28-22 advantage at the break. After three, the Engineers increased the lead to nine points, before closing the game with a solid fourth quarter to secure the 10-point victory, despite several runs from Coast Guard on hot shooting from Stotts.

WPI out-shot the Bears 43.9% to 33.9% from the floor, and WPI held the advantages in rebounding (45-29) and points in the paint (26-10). The Bears were able to force WPI into 19 turnovers, including 11 steals. 

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday, February 15 at 7 PM as they host Springfield College. The game will be Coast Guard's Pink Game.
