Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. --Today, Coast Guard Men's Basketball continued New England Women and Men's Conference (NEWMAC) play, but would fall to WPI 69-62, after hanging with them all game long.
Despite putting the first points on the board, with a Declan Rooney layup followed by a Mitch Shettles layup, WPI would score five unanswered points to take the lead at 18:14 in the first. However, the Bears would not go down without a fight and would take the lead once again with just three and a half minutes left in the first half. Then it was a back and forth battle and both teams would tie it up 30-30 at halftime.
The rest of the game would be a nail biter as there would be seven lead changes in the second half alone. Bears would lead for the last time with 4:31 left in the game from a Rooney jumper. Towards the end, the Bears could not find the edge to outscore the Engineers and they would ultimately fall.
Sophomore guard Declan Rooney, would lead the scoring not only for CGA, but would score more than any WPI player as well, finishing with 23 points. Cameron Brown had seven on the night along with five boards.
The Bears will be back in action Wednesday, Feb. 15th, as they face Babson on the road. Then the Bears will host Springfield Saturday, Feb. 18th, as they play their final home game of the season.
