Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Coast Guard Women's Basketball saw every player score in a 89-29 win over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Mount Holyoke College on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Bears improve to 11-9 (3-2 NEWMAC); Mount Holyoke falls to 2-19 (0-6 NEWMAC).
The Bears were led by sophomore Kelly Hagerty with 16 points. Junior Kira Wood had nine points, and Glory Blethen, Farrah Peterein, and Dorothy Stotts each had eight points. Lily Mika added seven points, followed by Mackenzie Hilden and Abbey Guidry with six apiece. Julia Mann and Taylor Lynch each chipped in five points, followed by Jacqueline Ward and Julia Barbalato with four each. Natasha Lange hit her first college basket to add three points. Guidry led the Bears in rebounds with 10 followed with Barbalato with six. Ward led the Bears with five assists and Stotts and Wood each had three.
The Bears came out of the gates strong, exploding for a 20-0 run to start the first quarter. Defense was locked in for the Bears, who held the Lyons to just two points in the quarter. The second quarter was much of the same, with the Bears taking a 50-8 lead into halftime. The Bears extended the lead to as many as 65 in the fourth quarter, before securing the win, 89-29.
The Bears shot 46.8% from the floor, 33.3% from three, and 87.5% from the free throw line, besting the Lyons across the board. Coast Guard assisted on 25 of their 36 made baskets, a season best for the team. The Bears outrebounded the Lyons 51-33, grabbing 20 offensive boards and scoring 21 second-chance points.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, February 4 at 2 PM as they head to Smith College to take on the Pioneers in continued NEWMAC action.
