Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Coast Guard Men's Basketball took on Sarah Lawrence college tonight in their season opener and took the 70-57 win.
In the first half, the Gryphons got on the board first from a Lucas Murray free throw. The first three minutes into the game the Bears trailed by three.
Mitch Shettles would hit a jumper at 3:09 into the first and give the Bears their first points.Â
Less than a minute later, Shettles would make a layup and give Coast Guard their first lead of the game, for a score of 4-3. The remainder of the first half would be a back-and-forth battle with nine different lead changes in the first 20 minutes of play.Â
The Bears would take and keep the lead for the remainder of the first half at 4:54 left on the clock. Bears would go up 23-22 from a
Declan Rooney three-pointer assisted by
Ben Yagey. At the half, Coast Guard led Sarah Lawrence 32-28.Â
In the second half, the Bears would continue to dominate and not let the Gryphons touch their lead for the final 20 minutes. The Bears led by as much as 13 with just 1:50 left on the game clock. Sarah Lawrence would not be able to make a comeback and would ultimately fall to CGA for a final score of 70-57.Â
For the Bears,
Ben Yagey led the team with 18 points on the night, followed by Shettles with 15.
Cameron Brown notched seven rebounds and Yagey led the team with five steals.
Declan Rooney,
Elijah Parent,
Luke Farrell, and Yagey all had three assists each.Â
Coast Guard starts out their season 1-0, and will host Roger Williams next Wednesday, Nov. 15th at 7 PM.
