CG Women's Basketball Takes Down RPI

Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - Coast Guard Women's Basketball hosted RPI in their home-opener tonight, dropping the Engineers 76-65.

RPI was able to get on the board first and led 18-16 after the first quarter. However, the Bears would lead 43-37 after the first half of play.

In the first 10 quarter of play, the Bears were able to out-rebound the Engineers. In the second quarter, the Bears out shot the Engineers 27-19, but RPI was perfect from beyond the arc, making four out of four three-pointers.

In the third quarter, the Bears started to control the game. At 1:55 left in the third, the Bears found themselves up by 11, forcing the Engineers to take a timeout.

Bears would dominate in the final 10 minutes and not allow the Engineers to touch their lead. With two minutes left to play, and another RPI timeout, Bears led 73-58.

With just six seconds left, an RPI foul would send captain Kira Wood to the free throw line. Wood's made free throw would be the final points of the game and Coast Guard would take the win for final score of 76-65.

Wood led her team with 19 points with five assists and three rebounds. Kelly Hagerty scored the second most points for the Bears with 16, and led her team in rebounds and blocks. She finished the night with nine rebounds and five blocks.

The Bears will be hitting the road this Friday, November 17th, to play Dean College in the Gordon Classic Tournament at 5:30 PM
