Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- First Year Mitch Shettles hit the go ahead shot with 1.3 seconds to go in the game and the Bear's defense stopped Wheaton's last second pass to seal the 75- 74 win over the Wheaton Lyons.
The Bears led by 13 points at the half but Wheaton got hot from the three point line in the second half (8-12) and erased the deficit. Leading the comeback for Wheaton was Aaron Williams. With 6:20 to go in the game, Coast Guard trailed 63-60 and had the ball underneath their own basket. Shettles cam off of a screen and made a three point shot and then was fouled. Shettles completed the four point play and the Bears led 64-63. The two teams would trade baskets right down to the end. With 8.8 seconds left, Wheaton made teo free throws to take a 74-73 lead. Coast Guard advanced the ball into the front-court and called time-out to set the stage for Shettles.
Aaron Williams led Wheaton in scoring with 22 points while Alex Carlisle (14) and Evan Cook (11) also scored double figures.
Mitch Shettles led all scorers with a career high 23 points. Sophomore
Abe Countryman also had a career night scoring 19 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. First Year
Elijah Parent scored 13 points and had three assists.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday at home in Alumni Gym against Emerson at 1 pm.
