Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- USCGA's Men's Basketball Team faced the MIT Engineers in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play last night and would just fall, 70-68.
MIT would come out with intensity scoring 10 points in the first four minutes of the game. However, this would be their largest lead of the night because the Bears would not go down without a fight. The Bears would come back and tie up the score at 13:58 in the first with a 3-pointer from Declan Rooney.
The rest of the half would be an all out war and each team would take turns grabbing hold of the lead. Going into halftime, the Bears would lead the Engineers by just one, for a score of 40-39.
In the second, the back-and-forth battle would continue and the largest would be held by the Bears lead, 60-56, with 8:05 left in the half.
Throughout the entire game, there were 13 ties and 12 lead changes which had everyone in the crowd on the edge of their seat.
In the last minute of the game, the score would be tied at 68. The intensity and pressure in Alumni Gym increased as MIT's Rome Delgado-Gonzale scored a layup with just 0:08 left. Almost everyone was on their feet as they knew USCGA had time for one last play and one last chance to clinch the lead.
As the clock ticked down, Bears guard Trevor Parker shot one final three-pointer. Parker wouldn't be able to connect and USCGA would fall to MIT, 70-68.
Despite the loss, Bears guard Declan Rooney would lead his team in scoring, finishing with 26 points. While the Bears out rebounded the Engineers and scored more points in the paint, they had less luck from behind the paint. Unfortunately, MIT would just outshoot the Bears.
