This past weekend CGA sailing competed in four events throughout the Northeast: the 25th Mrs. Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth College, the Sherman Hoyt Trophy hosted by Brown University, the Hood Trophy hosted by Tufts, and the first weekend of the American Fall Series hosted by American Yacht Club in Rye, NY.
MASCOMA LAKE, NH -- The Dinghy Women's Team competed at the 25th Mrs. Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth at their sailing center on Lake Mascoma in New Hampshire. The team was led in A-fleet by junior crew Sydney Motherway and junior skipper Emily Bornarth, with the B fleet squad led by senior skipper Emma Snead, senior crew Leo Krajewski, and sophomore crew Laura Slovensky. The team excelled in very shifty and windy conditions on Lake Mascoma, sailing to a strong second overall finish.
PROVIDENCE, RI -- The Sherman Hoyt Trophy at Brown saw very tough conditions with high variability in the breeze from 8-16 knots throughout the weekend. Racing for the Dinghy team in A-division for the Bears was sophomore Colman Schofield, with senior Charlie Mason and sophomore Charlotte McCarthy splitting time as crews. The B-division was sailed by senior skipper Matt Kickhafer and freshman Charles Pohl. Both teams sailed excellently in their divisions, which resulted in the team finishing tenth overall in a very difficult fleet.
MYSTIC LAKE, Mass. -- The Dinghy Team sent two squads to the Hood Trophy, raced on Tuft's homewaters, Mystic Lake, a notoriously tricky place to sail. Both squads raced well through the tough conditions, notably the strong winds ranging from 10-25 knots. Team Bears 1 raced to 17th place overal. They were led by sophomore skipper Jack Derry and sophomore crew Daniel Neville in A-division and junior crew Jonathan Glander and freshman skipper Julia Conneely. Team Bears 2 raced to 16th place, just in front of their teammates with sophomore skipper Aiden McGonagle and junior crew Mia Quinlan in A-fleet and an all-freshman boat with skipper Bradley Whitteway and crew Sarah Krajewski in B-fleet.
RYE, NY -- The Offshore Bears also had two squads racing at the American Yacht Club Fall Series, hosted by American Yacht Club in Rye, NY. Racing in the ORC division on the Swan 45, Gemini II, were seniors Rachel Pelton, Nate Olmsted, and Charles Tulevech, juniors Jacob Earnshaw and William O'Leary as well as sophomore Sean Sullivan. The Gemini II team currently sits in a strong third place heading into the second round of racing next weekend. Racing in the PHRF Coastal race on the J112, Rebelle, were juniors Carter Boykin-Holland, Myles Piotrowski, Coleman Pepperd, and Harlan Brady, alongside freshmen Charlotte Waring, Joshua Golden, and Connor Boudreau. The Rebelle squad leads their fleet in first heading into the second weekend of racing.
