NEW LONDON, Conn. – Second-seeded MIT captured the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament championship with a 5-3 win over top-seeded and host Coast Guard.
MIT won its 22nd NEWMAC tournament championship.
The loss snaps the Bears nine match winning streak and they finish 13-3. Coast Guard captured it first NEWMAC regular season championship this season.
MIT took two of the three doubles matches for a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Myles Decoste and Sean Dreher were 8-3 winners at #1 doubles for Coast Guard.
MIT would win three of the next four matches to clinch the championship.
Decoste was a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 winner at #1 singles while Charles Norman was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at #3 singles to account for the Bears other point.
