NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Top-seeded Coast Guard cruised to a 5-0 win over fourth-seeded Wheaton in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis tournament semifinals, a match played to decision.
Coast Guard has now won a record nine straight and improves to 13-2 on the season. Wheaton finishes the season 6-11.
The Bears advance to the NEWMAC championship match for the second straight season. Coast Guard will host the winner of today's second semifinal (Babson/MIT) on Sunday at noon for the NEWMAC championship and automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Myles Decoste and Sean Dreher were 8-4 winners at #1 doubles, Lucas Arora and Charles Norman won 8-0 at #2 doubles while Paul Choi and Banks Evans on 8-3 for the Bears.
In singles action, Norman won 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles and Decoste clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win at #1 singles. The other four Coast Guard singles players had won the first set and were leading in the second set when the match was stopped.
