Bears Run Win Streak to School Record Nine; Sweep Emerson

NEW LONDON, Conn. –  Justin Stasiak's two-run double in the eighth inning of the second game broke a 5-5 tie as the Bears rallied for three in the eighth to set the school record with their ninth straight win sweeping Emerson 10-8 and 7-5 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader.

Coast Guard had tied the school record with its eighth straight win in the opener. The Bears won eight straight in both 1992 and 1994.

The Bears improve to 14-6 overall and they are now 5-0 in conference play the best NEWMAC start in program history and the only unbeaten team left in NEWMAC play this season. Emerson drops to 8-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Coast Guard is back in action tomorrow afternoon at Babson in NEWMAC game at 3:30.

GAME ONE – COAST GUARD 10, EMERSON 8

The Bears scored three times in the eighth to break a 7-7 tie and win 10-8.

Blake Carroll and Stasiak each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the win while Carroll scored three runs and had a pair of doubles.

Thai Morgan and Calvin Jacey each had two hits for the Lions.

Wyatt Duthu (2-0) got the win in relief as he worked the final 1 2/3 innings allowing one run on one hit.

Bryan Simmons-Hayes (0-1) took the loss allowing two runs in just 1/3 of an inning.

Greg Boland was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Bears an 8-7 lead. Stasiak added an infield RBI single before John Carroll scored on wild pitch for the 10-7 lead.

The Bears took a 2-0 lead on a two-run double by Blake Carroll in the third before Emerson tied it in the third on a two-run homer by Matt Nachamie to center.

With the score tied 3-3, Coast Guard got three in the fifth on an RBI single by Boland, a bases loaded walk to Justin Steel and an RBI single by Stasiak for the 6-3 lead.

Emerson tied the game 7-7 with two in the eighth on an RBI double by Quinton Copeland and a sacrifice fly by Jake Hatch.
 

GAME TWO – COAST GUARD 7, EMERSON 5

Emerson rallied from a 4-2 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the seventh before the Bears scored three times in the eighth for the 7-5 win.

Boland and John Carroll each had two hits in the win for the Bears while Copeland and Joe Colucci each had two hits for Emerson in the night cap.

Aidan Anderson (1-0) got his first career win in relief as he working 1 1/3 innings and allowed just one hit before Cody Fideler pitched a scoreless ninth for his first career save.

Ty Bourne (1-3) took the loss for Emerson as he worked three inning and allowed five runs, four earned.

Emerson had a 2-1 lead before the Bears scored three in the fifth on an infield RBI single by Fidler before Duthu scored on a throwing error and finally Fidler scored on a wild pitch for a 4-2 lead.

Colucci blasted a solo homer to center in the sixth to make the score 4-3 and the Lions took the lead in the seventh as Briggs Loveland had an RBI ground out followed by and RBI single by Morgan for the 5-4 lead.

Coast Guard tied the game on an RBI double by Steel before Stasiak's double to center which prove to be the game winner.
