Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Bo Yaworski had three hits and six RBI's leading host Mitchell to a 15-0 win over Coast Guard in the Bears season opener.
Carmen Varney (1-0) allowed just one hit over six innings, walked one and fanned seven to get the win for the Mariners.
Coast Guard had two hits in the game, a single by John Carroll in the first and a single by Charles Red in the ninth.
John Thigpen took the loss he went two innings and was touched for four runs, just one earned. The Bears would use eight different pitchers on the afternoon. Dan Wolf pitched a scoreless inning as did a pair of freshmen Brock Soletti and Aidan Andersen in their collegiate debuts.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday against Gwynedd Mercy in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at 12:30, the first of five games on the spring trip for Coast Guard.
