Emerson Beats Bears

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Jarred Houston had a double-double scoring a team-high 19 points and adding a game-high 19 rebounds leading Emerson to a 79-61 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game. 

Emerson improves to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the NEWMAC while Coast Guard drops to 5-15 overall and 2-9 in conference play. 

Houston was eight of 10 from the floor in the win. Nate Martin (15), and Zach Waterhouse (14) also scored in double figures in the win for Emerson.  

Declan Rooney finished with a career-high 20 points off the bench. Bryce Vanderwiere had a team-high 12 rebounds off the bench.

Emerson shot 43.7 percent (31-71) from the floor and connected on five of 18 from 3-point range while the Bears were 22-79 from the floor (27.8 percent) and made six of 23 from downtown. 

Emerson jumped out to an 26-20 lead before going on a 12-0 run to make it 38-20 with 1:52 left in the half. The Lions led 40-24 at the half. 

The Lyons would start the second half on a 12-2 run in the first four minutes of the second half to double up the Bears 52-26.

The Bears are back in action on Saturday as they travel to play WPI in a NEWMAC game at 3:00.
