NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Jaira Paine scored four goals to lead Endicott to a 16-4 victory over Coast Guard women's lacrosse on Sunday afternoon. The Bears drop to 1-1 on the season, while the Gulls open the season 1-0.

Paine led the Gulls with four goals as Morgan Pike added three tallies. Kiana Napolitano had two goals with two assists, Katie Schenk, Katy Garvin also had two goals for Endicott. Alex Palermo, Ava Eklund, and Gabriella Prisco added a goal apiece for the Gulls. Prisco also caused a team-high six turnovers and six ground balls.

Senior Katherine Pittman led the Bears with two goals, junior Brenda Anderson had one goal and two assists and Shannon Schmidt added one goal with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Endicott jumped ahead with the first eight goals of the game before junior Shannon Schmitt scored her second of the season with three seconds remaining in the quarter. The Gulls had an 8-1 lead after the first.

Pittman scored the opening goal of the second quarter with help from Anderson. Endicott extended the lead 10-2 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Gulls went up 14-4 and added two more in the fourth quarter for the 16-4 final.

Sophomore Devon McCue made 13 saves in goal for the Bears and Maici Mintchwarner made one save in her 11 minutes of play. Lydia Akins made eight saves for the Gulls in the win.

Coast Guard is back in action on the road on March 4 at Vassar at 6 PM.
