Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Daryl Costa had a game-high 28 points as all five Pride starters scored in double figures leading Springfield to a 91-81 win over Coast Guard in the final game of the season for both teams.
Tyler Perez led Coast Guard with 25 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in the final game of his career while he also made three 3-point baskets to move into 10th place on the Bears all-time list with 116 trifectas. Madison Maloney added 16 points while Garrett Drummond had a game-high six assists.
Springfield finishes the season 6-17 overall and 4-10 in the NEWMAC while Bears close out the season 5-18 overall and 2-12 in the conference.
Coast Guard shot 43.6 percent (34-78) from the floor and connected on 7 of 21 from 3-point range while the Pride were 33 of 71 (46.5 percent) from the field and hit eight of 23 from 3-point range.
The Bears had an early 9-2 lead and Coast Guard led 38-30 following a trey by Jack Brunswick with 5:35 left in the half before the Pride used an 11-3 run to pull even 41-41 with 2:17 left in the half. The game was tied 43-43 at the half.
Coast Guard led 59-55 with 15:28 left before Springfield ran off seven straight to take a 62-59 lead with 13:11 left.
The Bears trailed 82-78 with 2:20 left before Springfield closed the game with a 9-3 run.
It marked the final game in the careers of Jack Brunswick, Drummond Perez, who were all part of the 2020 NEWMAC championship team.
