Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Kira Wood and Dorothy Stotts led Coast Guard to a win over Wesleyan University on Friday night by a score of 60-46. With the win, the Bears improve to 2-4; Wesleyan falls to 4-2.
Wood had a game high 17 points followed by Stotts with 15. Glory Blethen led the Bears with seven rebounds and added seven points. Blethen also had four blocks and Jacqueline Ward had one block. Julia Mann grabbed seven rebounds and Ward grabbed six boards. The Bears made seven of eight free throws on the night, shooting 87.5% from the line.
The Bears started the night strong on a 6-0 run on a jump shot from Blethen, two made free throws from Lily Mika, and a jump shot from Wood. A Stotts three made the lead seven at 9-2. The Bears ended the half on a 12-4 run to take a 29-21 lead into halftime.
Coast Guard outscored the Cardinals 20-14 in the third quarter to extend the lead. A slower fourth quarter had both teams scoring 11 to give the Bears the win.
The Bears are back in action on Monday, December 5 as they take on next-door rivals, Connecticut College at 7 PM.
