Bears Drop Pair to No. 8 Babson

NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Babson, ranked eighth nationally, got pair of quality pitching starts and swept Coast Guard 13-0 and 11-2 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader.

The Beavers improve to 4-0 overall and in the conference while the Bears drop to 3-3 both overall and in the NEWMAC.

Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday, April 10 with a NEWMAC doubleheader at Wheaton.

GAME ONE – BABSON 13, COAST GUARD 0

Jordy Allard allowed just two hits over seven innings while striking out eight and Francis Kiely's three-run homer in the sixth was the first of four homers for Babson in the win.

Allard (2-0) allowed a double to Tom Ankers in the first and a single to Nate Nam in the third. He would retire the final 13 batters he faced to get the win.

The Beavers led 2-0 before Kiely's homer pushed the lead to 5-0 after six innings.

Jack Ward hit a solo homer in the eighth while Michael Cook hit a pinch-hit two-run blast to left in the ninth before Patrick Manning added a two-run homer to center to close the scoring

Matt Valente was 3 for 4 for Babson, while Tom Ankers had two of Coast Guard's three hits.

PJ Gravalec (0-1) pitched the first six innings and had allowed just a pair of unearned runs through the first five innings before the three-run homer in the sixth. He walked two and fanned four and took the loss.

GAME TWO – BABSON 11, COAST GUARD 2

Riley Teevens (2-0) allowed six hits and one run over six solid innings while AJ DiFillipo was 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles and Matt Valente had two doubles and drove in three to lead Babson.

Blake Carroll and Dylan Donahue each had two hits for Coast Guard.

Nate Ralph (1-1) worked 4 1/3 innings and took the loss for the Bears. Lukas Caskey allowed just two hits over 2 1/3 innings and was a bright spot out of the bullpen.

Blake Carroll's RBI single in the third tied the game 1-1, but Babson would score three in the fourth and two more in both the fifth and sixth to take an 8-1 lead.
