Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – Coast Guard scored four unanswered runs for a come-from-behind win in the opener and senior Nate Ralph allowed just two hits over six innings and struck out a career-high 12 as the Bears offense exploded for 16 runs and Coast Guard swept Clark 6-4 and 16-9 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader. The wins are the first two in the career of new head coach Brian Casey.
Coast Guard opens NEWMAC play with back-to-back wins for the first time since 2015 when the Bears won their first three conference games.
Blake Carroll and Justin Stasiak each had five hits on the day as Coast Guard totaled 26 hits in the doubleheader sweep.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they play Emerson on the road in a doubleheader at noon.
GAME ONE – COAST GUARD 6, CLARK 4
Senior co-captain Tom Ankers hit his first career homer, a two-run shot in the bottom of the first to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.
Clark led 4-2 in the fifth before Blake Carroll hit a solo homerun and the Bears pulled even 4-4 when Greg Boland scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.
In the seventh, John Tacchini (first career hit) and Dylan Donahue led off with back-to-back singles before Stasiak reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Ankers drew a walk before Blake Carroll's RBI single to left gave the Bears a 6-4 lead.
Mark Stutts got his first career win in relief as he worked 2 1/3 innings and allowed just one hit, walked two and fanned four. Lukas Caskey allowed just one hit over the final two inning and struck out one to pick the save.
Carroll had three hits while Stasiak and Nate Nam each added two hits in the win for Coast Guard. Nam reached base safely four times as he also drew a pair or walks in the opener.
GAME TWO – COAST GUARD 16, CLARK 9
Ralph allowed just a pair of singles over the first six innings and Coast Guard scored six times in the third inning to break the game open early en route to the 16-9 win.
It was the first win for Ralph since 2018 and the second of his career. He walked just one batter and fanned a career-high 12. He had seven punch outs through the first three innings including striking out the side in the third inning.
Coast Guard led 15-0 after seven innings before Clark scored nine times in the final two innings.
Stasiak and Cody Fidler each had three hits while Charles Red, John Carroll and Blake Carroll each added two hits in the night cap.
Fidler and Red drove in three runs each while Stasiak, Blake Carroll and Greg Boland each drove in a pair of runs in the game two win.
Fidler's RBI single in the first gave Coast Guard a 1-0 lead.
John Carroll's three-run double, the first hit of his career, highlighted the six run third. Boland and Fidler added RBI singles in the inning while Stasiak drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 7-0.
The Bears added five more in the fifth as Stasiak had an RBI single, Red added a two-run double to make the score 10-0 before Blake Carroll's two-run single pushed the lead to 12-0.
Coast Guard scored three more in the seventh on RBI doubles by Red and Fidler and a sacrifice fly by Boland for 15-0 lead.
Clark would score three in the eighth and the Bears added a final run when Donahue scored on a wild pitch in the eighth before the Cougars scored six in the ninth.
