Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Nate Lopes had a game-high 21 points off the bench leading Roger Williams to a 77-73 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game, the Bears home opener.
The Hawks improve to 3-0 on the season while the Bears drop to 1-5.
Tyler Perez and Garrett Drummond each had 18 points to lead the Bears while Madison Maloney (15 points, team-high 13 rebounds), and Jack Brunswick (10 points and 10 rebounds) each had double-doubles for the Bears. It was the fifth double-double of the season for Maloney and the first of Brunswick career as he grabbed the career-high 10 rebounds.
The Hawks shot 43.7 percent (31-71) from the field and hit 10 of 36 from downtown. Coast Guard was 29 of 74 (39.2 percent) from the floor while making 4 of 23 from 3-point range (17.4).
Roger Williams jumped out a 24-8 lead in the first 11 minutes. Coast Guard would score seven straight to cut the deficit to 32-28 with 2:55 left in the half. The Hawks led 38-29 at the break.
The Bears would finally pull even 49-49 on a layup by Maloney with 13:39 left in the game before the Hawks used a 10-2 spurt to open up a 59-51 lead with 10:45 left.
Maloney would tie the game again at 64-64 with 7:04 left. Eli Harris would hit a 3-pointer with 3:34 left to cap a 7-2 spurt giving the Hawks a 71-66 lead.
Coast Guard is back in action on December 1st when they host Conn College at 7:30.
