Coach Jaskiewicz Earns 100th Career Win

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Junior Madison Maloney recorded a double-double to lead Coast Guard men's basketball to a 91-82 victory on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game a the Towneplace Suites Tip-Off, as head coach Kevin Jaskiewicz earned his 100th career win. The Bears are now 1-3 on the season and Clarkson drops to 0-2 on the year.

Senior Garrett Drummond had 24 points to lead four Bears in double figures. Maloney had 17 points to go with a game and career-high 14 rebounds. Senior Jack Brunswick added 15 points and freshman Ben Yagey scored 12 off the bench.

Blake Gearhart led the way for Clarkson with 17 points as one of four players in double figures for the Golden Knights. Chris Hulbert and Ryan Miles-Ferguson both had 14 points and Joe Lucas had 13 points off the bench for Clarkson.

The Golden Knights scored the first six points of the game early to take an early first half lead. At 14:10, Yagey made two free throws to bring the Bears within one, 13-12 but Clarkson answered with three consecutive three-pointers, taking a 22-13 lead with 12 minutes to go in the half. The Golden Knights would go on to take a 47-37 lead at halftime.

The Bears came back in the second half, outscoring Clarkson 54-35. Maloney led all players in the second half with 17 points, with help from Drummond with 15. Clarkson opened the half with the first three points, extending their lead 50-37. Coast Guard answered with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 52-45 just three minutes into the half. At 16:10, the Bears were down 58-49 and went on a 24 point run, taking control of the game with a 73-58 lead with 8:48 remaining in the half.

The Golden Knights came within five in the final minute but Coast Guard scored the final four points of the game for the 91-82 final.

The Bears had a 51-46 advantage in rebounds and shot 44.6% from the field.

Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday, November 16 at 7 PM at Roger Williams.
