Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. – James Salta homered and drove in three runs leading Plymouth State to an 8-4 win over Coast Guard in the Bears' season opener at the Gene Cusic Classic.
Freshman Blake Carroll had two hits including a triple, was on base four times and drove in a pair of runs for Coast Guard while Jon Pressley also had two hits for the Bears.
Dan Wolf went the first three innings allowing five hits, six earned runs while walking five and fanning six to take the loss.
Freshman Mark Stutts allowed just two hits and one run in three innings while Owen Hurley allowed a run and one hit over the final two innings for Coast Guard.
Carroll led off the game with a triple and scored on an infield single by Greg Boland for a 1-0 lead.
Trailing 4-1, the Bears pulled even in the fourth on a two-run single by Carroll and an RBI double by Pressley.
The Bears would manage just two hits over the last five innings.
Coast Guard out hit the Panthers 10-8, but Plymouth took advantage of 12 walks, both teams left nine runner on base.
The Bears are back in action on Sunday at noon when they take on archrival Merchant in a doubleheader at noon.
