Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Zoe Riis-Fallica had 11 of her season-high 17 points in the fourth quarter leading Coast Guard to a 82-76 win over Wheaton in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Emma Puddington added 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season while Kyra Hartman added 14 points and Faith Butler tied her career-high with 10 points in the win for the Bears, who improve to 14-7 overall and 3-3 in the NEWMAC.
Natalie Wind had a game-high 18 points for Wheaton (7-12, 1-4), which has dropped four straight. Sadie Shore and Bri Forbes each added 13 points while Mikayla Pucci finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Lyons.
Coast Guard led 22-15 after one quarter and Wheaton would use a 16-3 run to start the second quarter taking a 31-25 lead. The Bears would however use a 12-4 spurt to end the half leading 37-35.
The Bears led 50-48 with 4:07 left in the third when the Lyons went on a 7-0 run taking a 55-50 lead with 2:01 left in the quarter. Coast Guard outscored the Lyons 7-2 to end the quarter with the score tied 57-57.
Pucci would make a layup with 3:20 left to tie the game 70-70, but that was the final field goal by Wheaton. Coast Guard scored seven straight breaking a 73-73 tie. They took the lead for good 75-73 on a layup by Wood with 1:25 left. Puddington's old fashion 3-point play with 30 seconds left pushed the lead to 78-73 and she added a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left to ice the game.
Coast Guard shot 43.1 percent in the win (31-72) while making six of 20 from 3-point range. The Lyons were 25 of 61 from the field (41 percent) making 9 of 20 from behind the arc. The Bears held a 44-35 edge on the glass with 17 offensive rebounds.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they host MIT in a NEWMAC game at 1:00.
