WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Coast Guard closed out its regular season at West Point with the NCAA Tournament Qualifier and a face off against Army and conference rival MIT. The Bears fired a 4569 to lost to the Black Knights 4661 and beat the Engineers' 4342.
The Bears shot a season high 2323 in air rifle led by sophomore Bryce Sturtz's 585. Sturtz also notched a rare perfect string of 100 in the process. Co-captains Seth Strayer and Hunter Blankenship were close behind with a 583 and 580 respectively. Freshman Berit Bedord rounded out the scoring quartet tying her personal best score of 575. The Bears finished with a 2323, Black Knights 2348, and Engineers 2213.
Blankenship was top gun in smallbore, shooting a 570. Strayer was nipping at his heels and finished with a 569. Freshman Rose Reynolds and Bedord were nip and tuck just like the two upperclassmen. Reynolds slid past Bedord 554 to 553. The final scoring position went to a tie breaker, Bedord and Sturtz both finished with the same score, but the freshman had a higher standing score. The Bears finished with a 2246 behind the Black Knights' 2313 and ahead of the Engineers' 2129.
Freshman Dane Harbison posted a personal best aggregate score.
The Bears end the regular season with a record of 13-8 and stand undefeated in conference play. Coast Guard is next in action in two weeks March 7th and 8th at the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference at MIT.
