Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Andrew Jaworski had a team-high 24 points including the team's final 12 of the game while Crew Ainge added 22 points leading No. 23 Babson to a 96-84 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
The Beavers improve to 16-3 overall and 6-2 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 7-11 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
Jack Coolahan (19), Aaron Gao (11) and Andrew Kirkpatrick (10) all scored in double figures for Babson. Colin Bradanese had a team-high seven rebounds while Ainge added a game-high six assists.
Packy Witkowski led Coast Guard with 28 points while Tyler Perez added 16 for the Bears. Justin Kane had a game-high nine rebounds including the 600th of his career. Witkowski moved into seventh place on the Bears' all-time scoring list with 1,263 points.
Coast Guard got off to a hot start taking a 14-6 lead with 15:36 left in the first half. The Beavers would answer with a 12-3 run to take an 18-17 lead with 13:03 left.
Babson led 30-28 with eight minutes left in the half before scoring nine straight capped by a Jaworski trey with 6:20 left in the half for a 39-28 lead. The Beavers led 56-38 at the half.
The Beavers led by as many as 23 in the second half, 63-40 with 17:55 left.
Coast Guard would cut the deficit to just six at 88-82 on a layup by Perez with 2:02 left, but Jaworski would make a pair of free throws and then put the game away with back-to-back 3-pointers to close the scoring.
Babson shot 46.45 percent (34-73) in the win while making nine of 23 from 3-point range while Coast Guard shot 53.7 percent (29-54) while making 10 of 20 from behind the arc.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday night at Springfield in a NEWMAC game at 7:00.
