FORT WORTH, Texas -- Coast Guard, ranked 20th nationally, opened the second half of the season on the road facing #1 Texas Christian University and #14 Ohio State.
While the Bears posted some personal bests they were overwhelmed by the two DI powerhouses.
Day one, of the two day match saw TCU shot a 4724, to Ohio State's 4644, and the Bears 4515. Sophomore Bryce Sturtz lead Coast Guard in both smallbore and air rifle posting a 561 with the .22 and a 579 in air gun. Right on his heels was junior team co-captain Hunter Blankenship who put up a 578 in air. Freshman Rose Reynolds nudged out Blankenship for second in smallbore with a 557 to his 556 while shooting a 563 in air. Berit Bedord completed the scoring four with a 570 in air and a 550 smallbore. Dane Harbison, another freshman, posted a personal best in both smallbore and aggregate.
The Bears and Buckeyes faced off on day two with Coast Guard taking it on the chin 4665 to 4533. Reynolds lead in smallbore with a 567 followed by Sturtz's 562. Bedord, 558, and Blankenship 554 were the top four. Blankenship rebounded in air where he shot a 581 to lead the team and tie his personal best. Sturtz and Bedord engaged in a tight competition with 576 out pacing Bedord's 571 as Reynolds posted a 564.
The Bears are now 5-7 on the season. Coast Guard next sees action at home on February 1st against MAC rivals John Jay and SUNY Maritime.
